Why Your Unified Communications System Needs A Session Border Controller?

SBC_Security.jpgFirewalls, Network Security and Routing devices are common in business networks today.  There are various vendor solutions available on the market, however most of these lack key features required to support reliable and secure service of Voice over IP (VoIP) applications.  In fact, many solutions may introduce complex, difficult to diagnose problems that hinder the use of VoIP deployments.  This is why Session Border Controller (SBC) solutions are a basic requirement for enterprise class unified voice communications systems.

Enterprise SBCs provide Security of Voice, SIP Routing, SIP Interoperability, High Availability and Resiliency, and a number of other features specifically for business voice solutions. You can think of the SBC as your SIP Firewall. SBCs enable and enhance the voice communication experience within enterprise networks. Typical applications include SIP Trunking, Remote Phone support and future WebRTC applications.

eZuce Uniteme implementations benefit significantly from the capabilities provided by SBCs.  Uniteme is an open SIP Protocol Standard - Unified Communication platform. SBC’s allow Uniteme to utilize SIP Trunking services provided by any number of Carriers, as well as, enabling IP based services for remote users and SIP end-points (tablets and mobile phones) over the internet.

Any Uniteme installation where SIP Trunking or Remote Phones are deployed requires the use of an E-SBC.  E-SBCs come in Small/Medium/Large Call Capacity and provide Border Security, SIP Trunking, Near and Far End NAT Traversal, SIP Protocol Interoperability, SIP Routing, High Availability, Resiliency, and other E-SBC capabilities.
